13 weeks

13 weeks and as active as can be!

We got to see our little precious baby munchkin this week! Apparently our child is a wild thing because they barely were still enough for the nurses to get a good reading and measurement. We even saw the baby open and close it's mouth.. it was THE GREATEST. And I can't even get over how enamored my husband was, he was smiling ear to ear the whole time.. he really is so excited. I can't wait to see him as daddy! We were just thrilled to be able to see what our baby looks like these days, since the last time we saw him/her they were just a little kidney bean! We will see them again on Sept. 13!

Total weight gain: Still nothing! Hey, I'm not complaining :) As long as baby is healthy it's alllll good.
Symptoms: Nausea still.. only when I eat certain meals. I've thrown up twice in two days... but man it feels so much better afterwards!
Maternity clothes: I've worn a few things, but I can still barely squeeze into my summer shorts, it's just a bit snug!
Stretch marks: nope, fingers crossed!
Sleep: It all depends! Every night is different, but it's not as bad as it was (knock on wood). I just have to sleep with a pillow between my knees now to be comfortable.
Best moment this week: Seeing our sweet angel of course!
Miss anything?: NOT feeling nauseous
Movement: Well, apparently the baby is moving up a storm, I just can't feel it yet!
Food cravings: Not this week
Food aversions: For my palette, no, but for my stomach, yes. Apparently calzones and BBQ are off limits (that's what didn't stay down).
Belly button: Normal
Wedding ring: fitting normal
Mood: typical Jessica ;)
Looking forward to: still our gender reveal, can't wait!!!!
Baby bump: I got a gut goin' on :)

Next time I write I'll be in the second trimester.. WHOO HOOOOOO!!!

Love and blessings from the Kings!

12 weeks (I think?)

I'm a wee bit confused as to what week I'm in because 2 appointments ago, it puts me at changing weeks on a Wednesday (meaning I'd be 12 and half right now, b/c it's Saturday). But at my last appointment last week, my doc told me something different which would make me 13 weeks today. It makes no sense! Whatev. I'm sure it will change every time I'm there, so I'm sticking with Wednesday as my "week change" day because my due date falls on a Wednesday.. it's simple really.

Anywayyyyyy, I FINALLY got to hear our little bubba's heartbeat last week.. it was beautiful. Every time I think about it, I smile. How can people not believe in God? It's amazing to think this little person is just forming in there.. it's mind blowing.

Here's the update...

Total weight gain: at my appointment last week, not a pound in sight! They said everyone is different... maybe I'll become a big fatty last minute, who knows.
Symptoms: Fatigue comes and goes.. and nausea kind of made a return recently.. I'm gagging randomly.. sr'sly that needs TA GO! And I'm cramping a little bit again, nothing intense, but twinges. And the worst of all.. my lower back/sciatic nerve area. OMG it hurts soooo bad and nothing relieves it. Messed up, baby, messed up. JK I love you :)
Maternity clothes: Not quite, I got a few hand me downs the other day.. I luckily can just wear the dresses I already have since it's still summer.
Stretch marks: Not yet.. I ordered some Mama Mio stretch mark cream and oil which has GREAT reviews in preventing stretch marks during pregnancy and after delivery. Hoping it works!
Sleep: I spoke too soon last week. I haven't had a good night sleep in a week. UGH. This sciatic nerve pinch is uncomfortable and still peeing quite frequently.
Best moment this week: We went to the beach for the weekend with my parents and Garrett.. it was a really nice time. But hearing the heartbeat of the little babe is at the top of my list!
Miss anything?:A good night's rest... sooo ready to get one!
Movement: not yet!
Food cravings: No, finally eating some salads though.. and tomatoes sound kinda good.. which is great cuz that's actually healthy!
Food aversions: Nothing this week
Belly button: Normal
Wedding ring: fitting normal
Mood: pretty normal, I mean I tear up at A Baby Story.. but I've kinda always done that. I also almost died lighting the grill last night.. that scared the poop out of me and I cried when Jake came to check on me.. I coulda been toast man!
Looking forward to: Our gender reveal on Sept 14!!!! Boy or girllll????? We think girl, but who knows?!
Baby bump: itty bitty bump

Much love!!!

11 Weeks

Well, I am almost out of this icky 1st trimester... and I can't wait! So ready to start blatantly showing, getting some energy back and eating normal again. I like to think I have a cute little beginning of a bump. It is definitely noticeable to Jake and I, but to others it may just look like I partied too hard last night and had one too many beers, LOL! My shorts are too tight around the belly, but I still manage to squeeze into them. Probably will not be the case in a week or so!

Below I am posting some questions and notes that will continue weekly to keep everyone updated. Enjoy! :)

Total weight gain: Nothing yet!! I am honestly shocked.
Symptoms: Fatigue is beginning to diminish... still there a little bit, but not as bad as before! Slight nausea, not too bad. And HOLY BOOBS, time for a bigger bra!!!
Maternity clothes: Not yet.. I've been eyeing some though!
Stretch marks: Not on my tummy.. got a few under my boobs because they are growing faster than Jake can say "hot dog!" LOL
Sleep: Finally getting a *somewhat* solid night's sleep. If it's not me getting up to pee 50 times, it's me tossing and turning. But if I skip a nap and try to push myself to stay awake, I can sleep pretty soundly.
Best moment this week: I just got back from FL and it was so fun to be with family and friends while pregnant.. so crazy!
Miss anything?: Hmm let's think..  laying out in the sun without having to worry about my internal body temp every 2 seconds, wine, I'd LOVE a margartia, and sushi (not sure my stomach could handle it though)
Movement: too early to feel that, but I can't wait!
Food cravings: I don't really have a persistent craving, but every now and them something out of the blue will sound really good.. like a few weeks back I decided I was dying to have a Sierra turkey sandwhich from Panera Bread.. well I got one while in FL and it was to DIE for.
Food aversions: Umm nothing in particular, but sometimes I don't feel like eating certain things.
Belly button: Normal.. it will be a while before that sucker pops out.
Wedding ring: Fitting fine, but I have a "fake" back up ring for the day it doesn't fit!
Mood: I'd say close to normal.. at least if I'm acting different, no one has told me.
Looking forward to: I have an appointment this Thursday and I am hoping to hear baby's heartbeat!!!
Baby bump: Got a little gut in the lower abdomen :)

Much love from the 3 (OMG!) of us!

Expect the Unexpected.. We're Expecting!

Well, after 5 amazing years of being married and enjoying the time to ourselves... we finally are going to add a new addition!

I took a positive test on June 13th (Wednesday) and waited until Saturday, the 16th, to tell Jake. Here's why: Father's Day was that Sunday, the 17th, and I couldn't pass up that opportunity! I decided to tell him Saturday morning because we had a busy day on Sunday and I wanted him to know.. I couldn't hold it in any longer! I woke him up and said "when you're ready to come out to the living room I have a surprise for you, because you've been doing such a great job at work!"

So I set up a hidden camera and waited for him to come out. I handed him a bag with an envelope. He opened the card and it was a "Happy Father-to-be Day" card, and inside I put a picture of my positive digital pregnancy test. Inside the bag was a NC State onesie, a Baby Ruth bar where I wrote over "Ruth" with "King" and a wallet, just as a gift. He was so SURPRISED!!! Video below (Sorry for the crappy quality, we have a crappy camera!)

Horizontal Stripes, baby

Well, being that I do a lot of laundry... I wanted to make my laundry "room" (more like, closet) more visually appealing. So I thought to my self, "Self, how can we do this on the cheap?" Well I'll tell you how... leftover paint. If you can get creative with some left over paint, you can do stripes; that is of course, if the colors compliment each other. You wouldn't want army green next to fuschia, would you? If you said yes, you should leave. LOL jk, no but really.

Over the past year or so, I have been a huge fan of gray, all shades of it. It's such a great neutral and to me, it's the new tan. I am sick of tan this and tan that. Tan is safe, tan is dessert like. Needless to say, I avoid tan if I can.. and I also rhyme if I have time. Hahahaha.

Anyway, I had a darker gray left over from our bedroom and a lighter gray left over from our living room. So I figured I'd put the two together as stripes. At first I planned on vertical stripes, but then I saw this blog and changed my mind. How awesome does this look? This blog contains some instruction you can follow, although there is a step I want to clear up, because it sure as heck confused me.

It is step 1, how you determine the width, or technically the length (since they are horizontal stripes) of your stripe. Am I confusing you? What I mean is how fat you want your stripes to be. You want them to be like the perfect, curvy woman... not too fat, but not too thin either. Anyways, in this blog she said she wanted 6 stripes. Which I knew what she meant, but technically she wanted 11 (when you count both colors). She was trying to say paint 6 stripes over the existing base color. Now.. she does this little equation (6*2=12-1=11).... What the heck?!?! I was so confused by this.. she didn't even explain it. It makes much more since to me to just figure out the TOTAL amount of stripes (light and dark) and then divide that into the height of your wall (in inches). In my case, the top stripe is the base color (light gray)) and the bottom stripe is the base color (light gray). So there are 6 light stripes and 5 dark ones, making 11 all together. I suppose her equation makes sense if you think of it like that, but I think it's easier to just figure out how many stripes you want. You can also practice with some crayons on some paper and see what you like. So once you find out the height of your wall, mine is 93", you divide by total number of stripes, for me it was 11 meaning each stripe is 8.45" "wide". After painting the whole wall in the base coat (if your wall isn't already painted, paint the base coat with the lighter color first), I made my markings with pencil. The rest of the steps in the blog I mentioned will help you through the process

Some tips that I learned along the way:
-Do not go much smaller than 8.45" of stripe width or it will be difficult to fit a roller in between the tape without making mistakes. When I held my roller side ways I probably had about an inch of clearance between the roller and the tape.
-Do two coats for the base color and then two coats for each stripe.
-Peel the tape off immediately after finishing your last stripe; the tape comes off much easier when the paint is still wet.
-I didn't have a laser level to make sure my stripes were level. I just used a regular level and made the pencil markings all the way around the whole wall. It worked fine.

I will upload another post when I finish the whole laundry room transformation, it is still a ways off from being done. But I thought a stripe "tutorial" would be helpful for any of you wanting to spruce up a small space. This would look great in a larger room as well, but I'm not that bold, so I went with a smaller space. I love it :)

Thanks for reading! If you have any questions reply and I'll get back to you.

Be blessed!

Jessica
